“I need a poon”, “I see a tar”, “I said top” are some of the most common speech errors heard between 2 and 4 years of age. Leaving off part of an S cluster is also one of the easiest speech errors to fix and will often have a huge impact on how well your child can make himself understood. Anytime sounds are left off of words the words become much harder to understand. Correcting S clusters can reduce frustration and also lead to the correction of other speech errors. I often work on S clusters with children as young as 3 because it can make such a huge difference in their overall speech.
This is my guide to help parents know if they should be working on S blends / clusters with their child and my program to help parents work on S blends at home.
Included in are:
– Assessment Guide for S Blends
– Ideas for Direct Speech Therapy
– Ideas for Indirect Speech Therapy
– Game Ideas
– 58 Minimal pair picture sets for both types of S blend errors
– And More
While all of the ideas and materials in both the assessment guide and therapy program are based on my 26 years of experience working with children and families as a Speech-Language Pathologist, they just a guide. They cannot replace therapy with or an assessment by a Speech-Language Pathologist or any other professional.
Better Speech, Language and Social Communication is truly the best gift any parent can give their child.
